| R18+ Rating Coming To Australia At Long Last Posted: 10 Aug 2011 12:00 PM PDT Australia has finally ended what amounted to strict blanket censorship of video games not meeting the former highest available age rating of R15+. The new R18+ rating is slated to be introduced by the end of the year and will ensure adult Australian gamers will be able to enjoy adult entertainment, a concept previously anathema to Australian officials, who have repeatedly struck down previous attempts to legislate the issue.

| HDI 3D Projectors Arriving Feb 2012 Starting At $55,000 Posted: 10 Aug 2011 07:14 AM PDT HDI has unveiled a new range of 3D projectors it will be launching next year, with innovative designs that really make them stand out from the crowd, when compared to traditional projectors. Manufacturing is already under way for the new designed which you can see after the break and HDI hopes to have the new range in stores on February 12th. But be warned only 100 hand made systems will be available from the initial production run and their prices will range from $55,000 to $85,000.

| Will The iPhone 5 Look Like This? | Sony Unveils WhiteMagic LCD Display With Fourth White Pixel Posted: 10 Aug 2011 06:54 AM PDT Sony has unveiled a new 3 inch display designed for use in smartphones that uses it latest WhiteMagic technology, incorporates a fourth white pixel, improving the brightness of the entire screen. The tiny high resolution LCD display is equipped with a 1.23M-dot full VGA LCD (640 x RGBW x 480) and uses RGBW that has been developed by Sony using new algorithm for image signal processing, improving the brightness of the screen without any deterioration to the image quality.

| Apple Suing Motorola Over Xoom Tablet Design Posted: 10 Aug 2011 06:30 AM PDT Earlier today we heard that a court in Germany had granted Apple an injunction against Samsung, which will stop Samsung from importing the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 in to Europe. Apple has been suing a number of other smartphone manufacturers including HTC, Motorola and also Samsung, but now it would appear that they have started suing other tablet manufacturers as well as Samsung, the latest is Motorola over the Motorola Xoom.

Enabling you to recycling your old hardware through and Apple store even if you are not upgrading or purchasing a new Apple product. The latest updates to Apple’s recycling program also offers Apple gift cards rewards in exchange for your old hardware and will no longer charge you to recycle your goods as it did before, if your hardware is to old to be worth anything and you were not purchasing an Apple product.

We already knew that the Samsung Galaxy R would come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and it features a 4.19 inch Super Clear LCD display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and processing is provided by a dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, NVIDIA has released a hands on video which you can see below.

They have been created from a multitude of unwanted electronic components including data wire, motherboards and batteries, by Etsy member and artist Steven Rodrig. Rodrig uses the printed circuit boards from discarded computers and other electronic items to create weird and wonderful creations, some of which are available to purchase on Etsy.

| Motorola Wants To Release Windows Phone 7 Devices Posted: 10 Aug 2011 06:04 AM PDT It looks like Motorola is interested in developing some Windows Phone 7 smartphones, according to the companies CEO Sanjay Jah, who recently announced that Motorola would be interested in a similar deal with Microsoft that Nokia has. Although we can’t see Microsoft offering a similar deal, I am sure they will be willing to discuss some sort of deal that would get Motorola into producing Windows Phone 7 smartphones.

| Sony PS Vita Coming 30th March 2012? Posted: 10 Aug 2011 04:55 AM PDT We were expecting the new Sony PS Vita console to launch before Christmas, the other day Sony announced that it wouldn’t launch in the US and Europe until 2012, although they did not mention an exact launch date. Now it would appear that the Sony PS Vita will launch in the US on the 30th of March 2012, according to the guys over at Xbit Labs, this is quite a delay from the original December release we had heard and we would have thought that the early 2012 that Sony mentioned would have been around January.

| Nokia Confirms Nokia N9 Not Launching In The UK Posted: 10 Aug 2011 04:39 AM PDT Yesterday we heard that Nokia would not be releasing their Nokia N9 MeeGo smartphone in the US, at the time we had heard rumors that it would also not be available in the UK. Unfortunately it looks like Nokia as decided not to release the N9 here in the UK, and Nokia has now confirmed this, Nokia told the guys over at Paid Content that the N9 would not be available in the UK, you can see the full statement below.

| Netflix Streaming Arrives On ChromeOS Posted: 10 Aug 2011 04:34 AM PDT Netflix has this week announced via Twitter the launch of their new application on the Chrome web store, finally enabling users of ChromeOS to stream Netflix media. The new Netflix ChromeOS application allows users to stream media to their ChromeOS devices Google CR-48 or Acer Series 5 and resume watching where you left off on your TV or another computer. As the Netflix application is available in the Chrome web store you can also install it into your Chrome web browser on either your Mac or Windows computer. Essentially adding a bookmark within the browser to the Netflix website.

| ePillow, A Pillow For Your iPad Posted: 10 Aug 2011 04:22 AM PDT We have featured quite a few different iPad accessories here at Geeky Gadgets, the latest one is the ePillow, and as the name suggests it is a pillow for the iPad, although we are not quite sure why you would need one, as you could just use any standard pillow to rest your iPad on if you really needed to use one with your iPad. The manufacturer of the ePillow, claims it will allow you to use your iPad comfortably anywhere, anytime, even sitting in bed, personally I didn’t realise using the iPad without a pillow was such a problem.

| Apple Asks For Court Hearing To Intervene In Lodsys Patents Cases Posted: 10 Aug 2011 03:30 AM PDT We haven’t heard much from Lodsys recently, the company who is suing a number of Apple’s iOS developers, including the popular Rovio Mobile and Google’s Android developers. A while back Apple filed a motion with the courts to intervene on behalf of the Apple developers who are being sued by Lodsys, and now they have asked for a new court hearing in the cases.

| Steer Safe iPhone Accessory Adds Your iPhone To Your Steering Wheel Posted: 10 Aug 2011 02:40 AM PDT Using your iPhone or smartphone whilst driving your car isn’t exactly the best idea, and is illegal in a lot of places, the latest iPhone accessory doesn’t exactly seem like the best idea, and we don’t think it would be the safest thing to use whilst you are driving, the Steer Safe. The Steer Safe is an attachment for your steering wheel that is designed to house your iPhone 4, and let you use it on your steering wheel, and the designers of the device say that it should only be used when you vehicle is parked or stationary, although in the video they seem to be using it whilst driving.

| YouTube Expands Its Library With 20,000 New HD Movie Clips Posted: 10 Aug 2011 02:04 AM PDT YouTube has today announced a deal with MovieClips.com that will add 20,000 new high-definition movie clips to YouTubes library. MovieClips was created 2 years ago and has partnerships with all the major studios apart from Disney. Enabling them to convert scenes from the studios movies into smaller clips which can then be shared online. According to MovieClips statement they have always wanted to strike a deal with YouTube and both parties are now looking to promote movie clips in a similar way to that Vevo uses its music videos.

| Apple Wins Injunction Against European Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Posted: 10 Aug 2011 01:55 AM PDT It looks like Samsung may have a problem in Europe with their new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, as a court in Germany has granted Apple an injunction, which will stop Samsung distributing the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the European Union. It seems that the only country which is exempt from the ruling is the Netherlands, so that would mean that the rest of Europe, included the UK is effected, and Samsung has released the following statement.

| Amazon Launches Kindle Cloud Reader Posted: 10 Aug 2011 01:45 AM PDT Amazon has launched a web based version of their Kindle App, called the Kindle Cloud Reader, which is basically a web based version of their Kindle eBook reader application. The Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader will let you read your Kindle books from the cloud and also download your books for offline reading, and it works with the iPad, and both PCs and Macs using either Google’s Chrome or Apple’s Safari.

| HiLO Tablet With Felt Keyboard Case Concept Posted: 10 Aug 2011 01:43 AM PDT A very unique tablet concept called HiLo has been designed by Roni Margolin that incorporates a material felt case that also doubles as a keyboard. The main tablet is a 10 inch OLED that links to felt keyboard via Bluetooth. Inside the felt keyboard case the electronics for the keyboard would use hot pressed embedded circuitry with keys located on the outside as shown in the gallery after the jump.

| Fantastic Death Star Cake Complete With LED Posted: 10 Aug 2011 12:49 AM PDT We have featured a number of Star Wars Death Star cakes here on Geeky Gadgets, that seem to be getting more and more complicated with every new one thats baked. This new Death Star cake created by Rachel Linhart is no exception and includes a blinking LED light which has been installed to represent the plant destroying laser used by the Death Star. As well as the fantastic Death Star cake which took several days to bake and build, Rachel has also created extra detailing around the cake in the form of the Millennium Falcon, a Star Destroyer, TIE Starfighters and of course the Star Wars signage.

| Facebook Launches Facebook Messenger For iOS And Android Posted: 10 Aug 2011 12:39 AM PDT Facebook has launched a new stand alone Facebook App for Apple’s iOS devices and Google’s Android platform, called Facebook Messenger, and the app is based on Beluga which Facebook acquired recently. It looks like Facebook is looking to take on SMS with Facebook Messenger, and it could be a problem for Apple’s new iMessage application which will launch with iOS 5.

| Samsung Galaxy S II Celox With 4G LTE Leaked Posted: 10 Aug 2011 12:10 AM PDT The Samsung Galaxy S II has been a huge success for Samsung, the handset is due to go on sale in the US shortly with a range of mobile carriers, and now a new Galaxy S II with 4G LTE has been leaked, the Samsung Celox. The Samsung Celox has turned up in Korea, and it will come with a 4G LTE chip which is capable of transfer speeds of up to 100Mbps, although it doesn’t look like it is headed for the US as it uses the 800 / 1800 / 2600 MHz LTE which is used in Europe and Asia.

| Nokia To Stop Selling Symbian Smartphones In The US Posted: 09 Aug 2011 11:58 PM PDT Yesterday we heard that Nokia would not be selling the new Nokia N9 MeeGo smartphone in the US, and now it looks like Nokia will be putting an end to sales of all Symbian devices as well, instead they will be concentrating their efforts on Windows Phone 7 devices. Chris Weber, President of Nokia Inc, which is Nokia’s US subsidiary, has been talking to All Things D, and has told them that Nokia will be concentrating all their efforts in the US on Windows Phone 7.

| Anonymous Says They Will Destroy Facebook On November The 5th Posted: 09 Aug 2011 11:41 PM PDT Anonymous or someone claiming to be part of Anonymous has set up a new Twitter account and also released a video on YouTube, and are claiming that they will bring down the world’s largest social network on the 5th of November. They are calling it ‘Operation Facebook’ and Anonymous have released a statement, which criticises Facebook’s privacy, something which has come under criticism quite a lot in the past, you can see part of the statement below.

(Unless you club someone on the head with it.) Made by a certain PenfoldPlant whose creative streak is more in line with Hiram Maxim than Thomas Edison, the Tar and Feather is a single shot projectile launcher that’ loaded with gross things, i.e. tar and feathers.

| Bungie Register “Destiny” & “Be Brave” Trademarks Posted: 09 Aug 2011 03:09 PM PDT Developers usually don’t have the most straightforward naming process for their games, and Bungie certainly fits that description, especially in light of their reputed disdain for the “Combat Evolved” appended to the original Halo at Microsoft’s behest. But the best thing about having a decade-long string of platform-driving successes is that at one point you not only get to make your own game, but you get to name it whatever you damn well please.

| Modern Warfare 3 Heading To DS… Kind Of Posted: 09 Aug 2011 02:51 PM PDT Those of you who have previously played a Modern Warfare port on the last-gen handheld king will probably manage their expectation accordingly. They’re not bad by any stretch of the imagination, nor indeed particularly good, they just sort of are. One thing they are apparently not, though, is on the 3DS.
