SolarFocus is introducing at the CES 2012 the SolarKindle, the world’s first solar-powered Kindle cover. The solar gadget has a unique eco-friendly design with a flexible, lightweight high performance solar panel built right into the cover. Its dual-charging reserve battery can be charged via not only via solar panel but also USB, and allows up to three-months of unplugged Kindle use under normal sunlight environment. According to the company, one hour under direct sunlight can provide up to 3 days reading time.

Other than the G-DRIVE mobile/USB, Hitachi’s G-Technology also introduces then new G-RAID and G-DRIVE storage solutions based on Hitachi’s new 4TB, 7,200 RPM Deskstar 7K4000 hard drive. The 4TB Deskstar drive uses 6Gbps SATA interface and has 64MB cache buffer. Both G-RAID and G-DRIVE have 3Gbps eSATA, FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 ports, and come with an all-aluminum enclosure. They are pre-formatted for Mac OS X system and are Time Machine Ready.


The G-RAID is a dual-drive RAID i storage device with up to 8TB capacity. It can deliver up to 200MB/s transfer rate when connected to any Mac or PC via eSATA, making it able to handle simultaneous playback of multiple layers of HDV, DVCPRO HD, XDCAM HD and ProRes 422 HQ with the leading video editing applications such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere. The G-RAID has soft-touch On/Off switch and thermo-regulated “smart” fan for stable, cool and quite operation.

On the other hand, the new G-DRIVE is a professional external hard drive with single hard drive. It has up to 4TB capacity and is ideal for intensive applications including A/V editing, digital photography, music libraries, and high-speed data backup. The fanless drive offers a cool and quiet operation.

Both drives will be released in Q1. The G-Technology G-RAID will be available in for $899.99 for 8TB, and the G-DRIVE will be priced at $449.99 for 4TB, $349.99 for 3TB, $249.99 for 2TB and $199.99 for 1TB.

Along with the new ThinkPad X1 Hybrid and T430u, Lenovo also expands the ThinkPad Edge line with the new Edge S430 premium notebook for professionals. The new S430 is the first Windows laptop to get Intel Thunderbolt technology, which allows users to “transfer a full-length HD movie in less than 30 seconds and backup a year of continuous MP3 playback in just over 10 minutes”.

The ThinkPad Edge S430 is powered by the latest Intel Core processor with choices of integrated HD graphics or dedicated NVIDIA Optimus graphics. It comes with a 14-inch 1600×900 display and packs also Dolby Home Theatre v4, DVD burner, up to 1TB of hard drive, and USB 3.0 ports. The stylish S430 features a metal accents, a soft-touch finish encased in an elegant thin and light design, and it measures less that 1-inch thick. The notebook is also loaded with Lenovo Solution Center powered by Intel Small Business Advantage, a set of productivity and security tools helping to enable overnight energy savings and automatic patch updates.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430 will be released in June starting at $749.

FujiFilm has just announced the FinePix HS30EXR (also known as HS33EXR) and HS25EXR (aka HS28EXR) DSLR-style long-zoom digital cameras with a sturdy and classic design. Both models are equipped with 16 Megapixel EXR-CMOS image sensor, a Fujinon 30x optical zoom lens and a 3-inch LCD display with Sunlight mode. There ia an electric viewfinder as well for easy outdoor shooting.

The HS30EXR and HS25EXR comes with updated intelligent processor and offers EXR Auto mode that configures each scene and recognizes the perfect setting and automatically takes the best quality picture, with a single touch of a button. They include Motion Panorama 360, Super Intelligent Flash, Face Detection, Face Recognition, Purple Fringing Reducer/Corner Resolution Enhancer, and RAW shooting. The HS30EXR can also shoot both a RAW and JPEG shot simultaneously. In addition to high speed continuous shooting at up to 8fps in full resolution, both cameras also include High Speed Movie options, which include capture at an incredible 320fps. The HS30EXR also features contrast Auto Focus system that takes approximately 0.16 seconds to focus.

Both 30x zoom FinePix cameras support Full HD 1080p video recording with H.264 high profile compression and provide mini-HDMI output for showing videos and images on a bigger screen easily. The HS30EXR has a large 0.26-inch electronic viewfinder with a 22-degree viewing angle and 920K resolution. while the HS25EXR has a 0.2-inch electronic viewfinder with a 16-degree viewing angle and 200K resolution. They both have "heads up" sensor that automatically changes from LCD to EVF for convenience.

To be released in March 2012, the FujiFilm FinePix HS30EXR and FinePix HS25EXR will be priced at $499.99 and $399.99, respectively.

Manual EXR modes:

  • High Resolution Priority – can be used when you're after exceptional image quality.
  • High ISO & Low Noise Priority – can be used in low light conditions where the combination with the EXR sensor makes for superb results.
  • Dynamic Range Priority – takes two pictures and combines them to provide a wide dynamic range of up to 1600%.

Lenovo introduces its first business ultrabook, the ThinkPad T430u that “equips business users with the same thin and light designs found in consumer ultrabooks without sacrificing business-class performance”. Powered by choices of Intel Core processors, and integrated Intel or NVIDIA graphics. It comes with either up to 1TB of hard drive or SSD storage. There is a 14-inch 1366×768 display.

The ThinkPad T430u has an aluminum top cover and a soft touch matte finish. It measures less than 0.8-inch thick and weighs less than 4 pounds. It provides up to 6 hours of battery life. Coming in Q3, the Lenovo T430u ultrabook will start at $849.
