Fujifilm FinePix SL300, SL280, SL260 and SL240 Ultra Zoom Bridge Cameras Posted: 13 Jan 2012 12:15 AM PST FujiFilm introduces SL-series ultra zoom bridge digital cameras that sits between DSLRs and point-and-shoot cameras. All four models, FinePix SL300, SL280, SL260 and SL240, offer the image quality and versatility of a DSLR combined with the convenience and portability of a compact camera. All four cameras sport 14 Megapixel CCD image sensor and a 3-inch LCD display with 460,000 dots. The model number of these camera indicates the zoom range of their Fujinon optical zoom lens, meaning SL300 will have 30x optical zoom, SL280 with 28x zoom, SL260 with 26x zoom and the SL240 with 24x zoom. They feature 2cm macro shooting, ISO up to 6400, P/S/A/M manual control, Tracking Auto Focus, and i-Flash Intelligent Flash. There is an additional zoom lever (side lever) on the barrel of the lens gives users the ability to zoom in and out without taking their hands from the camera. The FinePix SL300, SL280, SL260 and SL240 all support 720p HD video recording and have HDMI output. They include TTL Hot Shoe for users to add accessories such as external flashes. [CES 2012] Plextor M3 Pro 7mm SSD with 24nm Flash Posted: 12 Jan 2012 10:50 PM PST Plextor announced at the CES 2012 the new M3 Pro solid state drive that offers improvements to the current M3S, including a significant boost in sequential and random read/write speeds. The new M3 Pro comes in 7mm height form factor to fit ultra slim notebooks and is based on Toshiba’s 24nm Toggle Flash. It uses the SATA III 6Gbps interface. Available in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB capacities, the M3 Pro offers sequential read speed up to 540MB/s and write speeds up to 450 MB/s, and random read/write speeds of up to 75,000/69,000 IOPS. It utilizes Marvell’s server-grade controller and features exclusive firmware with True Speed technology, which includes Plextor’s proprietary Bad Block Management, Global Wear Leveling, and Instant Restore Technologies. The Plextor M3 Pro will be available in February 2012. Canon introduces its 2012 series VIXIA HD camcorders, including three compact HF M-series models – VIXIA HF M52, VIXIA HF M50 and VIXIA HF M500. These three new camcorders have lightweight body and compact design. They all support Full HD 1920×1080 video and feature a Canon 10x HD video lens, enhanced HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor for high video resolution, outstanding low-light performance and a wide dynamic range; ad DIGIC DV III image processor.
The VIXIA HF M52 and VIXIA HF M50 both feature built-in WiFi connectivity for users to upload videos wirelessly to YouTube and Facebook through use of an iPad/iPhone app; and DLNA for wireless video streaming to DLNA-compatible devices. HD-to-SD Downconversion feature is also included. They have 32GB and 8GB internal flash memory, respectively, and have SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot. The VIXIA HF M500, on the other hand, records directly to SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards. They provide the option to capture videos in MP4 or AVCHD file format. Canon’s new Full HD camcorders include the company’s enhanced Image Stabilization system that automatically detects the needs of the situation being captured and will change intuitively through one of four IS modes – Dynamic, Powered, Macro and Tripod – so that the user has fewer things to worry about while shooting video. When the record button is pressed and the subject is walking, the Intelligent IS system will employ Dynamic stabilization to help reduce camera shake automatically. There are also Macro (or Hybrid) stabilization to counter shift camera shake f the subject is very close to the camcorder, and the Powered IS to help counter slow, large-scale camcorder shake if the subject is far from the camcorder at extreme telephoto distances. They also also equipped with a new Audio Scene Select menu that streamlines the selection of custom audio selection; Smart AUTO mode that intelligently detects and analyzes brightness, color, distance and movement to automatically select the best of 38 available pre-set setting selections for the scene being recorded; Touch & Track feature allows users to select any subject on the Touch Panel LCD screen with their finger, which the camcorder will then track to ensure sharp focus and proper exposure. Fujifilm FinePix JX700, JX580, JX550, JX520 and JX500 Simple, Stylish Cameras Posted: 12 Jan 2012 08:08 PM PST Other than the JZ250 and JZ100 8x zoom cameras, FujiFilm adds five new models to its JX-series, including the FinePix JX700 (aka JX710), JX580 (JX590), JX550, JX520 and JX500. These affordable cameras have a compact design and are easy to use. All of them are equipped with a Fujinon 5x optical zoom lens, and support 720p HD movie recording.
The JX700, JX580, JX550 come with 16 Megapixel CCD image sensor while the JX520 and JX500 get 14 Megapixel sensor. Except for the JX580 and JX520 with 3-inch LCD screen, the other three models sport a 2.7-inch LCD display. All these compact cameras feature Automatic Scene Recognition (SR Auto) mode, which detects the type of scene being photographed and automatically adjusts the camera’s settings to suit, Tracking Auto Focus, Face Detection, Motion Panorama mode and Digital Image Stabilization. They all have a dedicated movie recording button. FujiFilm is going to release the JX580 and JX500 in the US in February for $119.95 and $99.95, respectively, in black, red and blue colors. Also to be launched in the States is the FinePix AX550, which is a varaint of the JX500 using AA batteries instead of Li-ion battery. The AX550 will be available in black, in March for $89.95. Verizon Motorola DROID 4 LTE 4G QWERTY Smartphone Posted: 12 Jan 2012 07:33 PM PST Verizon and Motorola are launching another DROID smartphone, the Motorola DROID 4, which is the thinnest and most powerful 4G LTE QWERTY smartphone. Like its predecessors (DROID, DROID 2, DROID 3), Motorola’s new Android device packs a QWERTY keyboard in a slim body. The DROID 4 adds support for Verizon’s 4G LTE mobile network for high-speed data.
The Motorola DROID 4 is powered by a dual-core 1.2Ghz processor and 1GB of RAM. It sports a 4-inch qHD touchscreen with scratch and scrape resistant glass, and its five-row QWERTY keyboard features a PC-like layout and edge-lit keys for fast, precise typing, even in the dark. Other than 1GB internal memory, the QWERTY phone supports microSD/SDHC up to 32GB. The 8 Megapixel rear camera is capable of 1080p Full HD video recording, and there is a 1.3 Megapixel front-facing camera with 720p video recording. HDMI output is included for mirroring 1080p video on HDTV. The DROID 4 supports GPS/AGPS, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi connectivity and works on CDMA 800/1900, LTE Band 13 mobile networks. Other features include FM radio, eCompass, 3.5mm jack, micro USB port, and 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot function supporting up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices. The phone is also Business Ready with government-grade encryption (FIPS 140-2) for email, calendar and contacts; preloaded Citrix Receiver for Android (available in webtop) for desktop virtualization and access.
